Your Energy Costs Are Likely Going to Increase in 2026Electricity rates are set to skyrocket, fueled by the Trump administration’s war on cheaper clean energy and push for expensive fossil fuels.“For the last 20 years, electricity demand remained fairly flat, but now demand is surging, driven partly by artificial intelligence companies building data centers. Meanwhile, we are facing the unavoidable costs of modernizing our aging electricity system built decades ago and increasingly strained by extreme weather driven by climate change.

Clean energy is the cheapest and fastest way to meet rising electricity demand. But the Trump administration is taking a much more expensive, much more polluting approach by propping up fossil fuels.” Read the whole article here. Ductless heat pumps (AKA mini-splits) are highly energy-efficient because they transfer heat rather than generate it, avoid energy loss through ductwork, and offer zoned control, potentially saving significant energy compared to traditional systems. Now it is a great time to switch, and we’re here to help!

Kicking Gas is Hiring!

As our program grows, we’re looking to bring on 1-3 new Bilingual Client Associates (Spanish + English). Bilingual Client Associates are responsible for outreach and education in English and Spanish, supporting Spanish Language efforts—outreach, flyers, field calls from Spanish speakers, translating written materials, and supporting Spanish and English speaking clients.

The role is part-time and hybrid (mostly remote via Zoom). The Kicking Gas main office is located on Whidbey Island, though we meet a few times a year throughout Western Washington as we have clients along the Puget Sound corridor from as far north as Snohomish County and as far south as Pierce County.

We’re soliciting resumes and cover letters now until February 9th at 11:59pm. Candidates can share their application materials to sylvia@kickgasnow.org. Please consider sharing this with your networks!

Thank you for fundraising for us last year!

Because of people like you, Kicking Gas is going stronger than ever! As you’re well aware, this political climate has made our work increasingly difficult and insecure. At one point, we weren’t sure if we would be able to continue. But due to our dedicated team, hard work, and support from wonderful donors, we have persevered! The end-of-year fundraising campaign raised $52.4k, meeting our base goal to carry on with keeping and paying our staff equitable wages. THANK YOU for believing in our mission and allowing us to stay committed to our mission of a Just Transition.
